Mortal Kombat Trilogy Extended is a fighting game developed by Williams Entertainment, and developed and published by Midway for the Bandai CD Revolution. It's an extended version of the PlayStation version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy. The game is nearly identical to Kabal MK's Sega Genesis hack Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy with all 57 2D characters from the old school Mortal Kombat games. Mortal Kombat 3. Mortal Kombat Trilogy Deluxe is a 2D fighting video game developed by Warner Bros. Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios. It contains all of the fighters from the previous Mortal Kombat games developed by Midway. Mortal Kombat Trilogy combines characters, stages, and moves from earlier installments in the violent fighting series. Choose from a total of 36 playable characters, including alternate versions of Kano, Jax, Raiden, Sub-Zero, and Kung Lao. As in previous games, you must fight and defeat each opponent in succession in your quest to confront the evil Shao Khan. Each match is a best-of-three contest that involves depleting a rival's health, at which point you can initiate a character-specific '-ality' move: fatality, animality, babality, or brutality.

One of the key new features in Mortal Kombat Trilogy is the 'Aggressor Kombat Mode.' Landing combos fills a horizontal meter that, when maxed, lets characters unleash even more powerful attacks. In addition to the single-player arcade mode, players can challenge a friend to a one-on-one fight, a two-on-two battle, or engage in a round-robin tournament spanning eight combatants. Defeating Shao Khan has the added benefit of unlocking up to 12 treasure boxes, with surprises ranging from a Galaga mini-game to video demonstrations of the title's fatalities.

All the characters from the first three Mortal Kombat games return for the ultimate battle. You can play as Kano, Reptile, Mileena, Kung Lao, Shang Tsung, Sindel, Sketor, Stryker, Nightwolf, Sheeva, Kitana, Scorpion, Sonya, Smoke (Cyber Ninja), Rain, Jade, Baraka, Johnny Cage, Ermac, Noob Saibot, Sub-Zero (Unmasked), Sub-Zero (Classic), Jax, Rayden, Cyrax, Liu Kang, Smoke (Human), Kabal, Goro, Kintaro, Motaro, or Shao Kahn.

This game is one-on-one martial arts fighting. The player can choose from over thirty different characters, all with their own fighting style and their own special moves. Trilogy differs from the other games in that you can play combinations of people that otherwise isn't possible, such as old Liu Kang vs. new Liu Kang, etc.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy also allows you to challenge a friend to a fight through a Windows IPX network connection.

The game revolves around the story of MK3. Shao Kahn was a sore loser after suffering defeat in MKII. So he revives his ten thousand-year-old plan of resurrecting his queen Sindel, but not on Outworld, on Earth. Uh-oh! The Elder gods can only watch as Kahn steals the soul of every human being and merges Earth with the Outworld. But there's souls that he can't take. The souls of the warriors who Raiden (who, by the way, is a rebel frowned upon by the gods) chose to stand against Kahn's rule. So what does he do? He sends his champions to kill the warriors. What happens next? Well, MORTAL KOMBAT!!

The game's set up like UMK3. You can choose between 1-on-1 Kombat, 2-on-2, or 8-player tournament. Once you pick a character in 1-player mode, you pick one of four towers: Novice, Warrior, Master, and Champion. The higher the rank, the more people you fight and the harder they are. You fight your way up the tower, battle an endurance team (like MK1, sometimes with more people), then Motaro, then finally you face Shao Kahn. Once Kahn's destroyed (Good luck, YOU'LL NEED IT!), you get to pick your reward: whether it be your character's ending or a fatality demonstration. There's some new surprises though, like the 'Aggressor' bar which gives you more power once it's full, and auto-combos to give you an advantage against your opponents.

This thrill ride isn't without its faults, however. You'll notice quite a few glitches and bugs, plus the AI being completely unforgiving, even if you set the difficulty on Very Easy. Well at least the loading times that were in the Playstation version (which this version is based on) didn't return. That aside, Mortal Kombat Trilogy is a nice snack for fighting game fans and retro junkies to bite into.
